Endangered animals in Central America

Industrialization, hunting, the greed of man, climate change and many other factors are influencing many species of animals to disappear. This is the case of some in Central America, of which we want to talk to you on this occasion.

Animals in danger of extinction in Central America

Squirrel monkey

This little monkey is considered the smallest of the primates. No one can help but breathe a sigh of appreciation when they see it. However, in Central America we may not see it again in a very short time since the destruction of its habitat prevents it from being able to feed and survive.

Its body measures about 75 centimeters, but of these, forty belong to the tail. The length and flexibility of its tail allows it to move freely between the trees and jump from one to another without any problem. Its color is ocher and reddish tones with a characteristic black spot on the face.

Anteater

This curious animal with the tube-shaped snout is one of the most present in Central America, although unfortunately, this will soon change. Its diet is based on ants that it obtains by destroying their nests with its claws.

The destruction of the forests and habitats in which it lives are causing its domains to be increasingly reduced, which will lead to its disappearance.

Armadillo

Armadillo.

This animal that many of us have known thanks to cartoons, is present in all the countries of Central America, but given the deforestation that is happening in them, it seems that very soon we will stop seeing it.

It is an animal with a shell made up of juxtaposed plates that make it very easy to see with the naked eye. Despite the fact that there are various species that inhabit many of the Latin American countries, these are less and less and soon threaten to disappear. Seeing how cute they are, it would be a shame, don’t you think?

Reef coral

One of the characteristics of the Central American seas is its great aquatic diversity and the beauty that it hides in its depths. Well, pollution and the damage caused by human navigation have caused many species to disappear and others, such as those that embellish the seas, are in danger of extinction.

In this case we are talking about reef corals, of which there are fewer and fewer and it is estimated that in less than twenty years they will cease to exist in their entirety. Without a doubt, the Caribbean and Pacific seas without corals would not be the same.

Crocodile

This, one of the fiercest of reptiles, is present in many Latin countries, and although it may not be to the liking of many, it has its role in nature and is necessary for balance in the pyramid of life.

Their natural habitat spaces are becoming less and less and the animals they can feed on, since many are disappearing, which will cause them to disappear at some point.

Quetzal

Quetzal.

Quetzals are beautiful birds that live mainly in Latin America and their colors attract all who see them. That is why in many of these countries specific tours are made in order to spot them, although you are not always lucky, and now, every day less.

Climate change and deforestation is causing heavy casualties among these birds of paradise characterized by their long tail, their friendly crest and their bright colors. It would be a shame if a work of art like this ceased to exist.

Sea turtles

The sea turtles that can be seen when their breeding season arrives are disappearing. The greed of man to disturb them while they lay their eggs, or to steal these when they have the opportunity, is the main cause that this species is in danger of extinction.

We do not like to give news of this type, in which we talk about animals that we love and that have always been part of our lives. That now they are going to cease to exist is something we do not get used to. You can do your bit to avoid it.
